Hops are necessary to give beer its unique bitter taste. They are usually added during the boiling process so that the flavour seeps into the boiling wort. After a few hours of boiling the wort with the hops and the other ingredients, brewers end up having a big pile of green gunk floating all over the wort. Filtering the hops and other sediments prevent creating a lot of mess during the primary fermentation process.

There are many ways of filtering the wort after boiling and these include the use of a mesh strainer, false bottom, filter bag and bazooka screen. The bazooka screen removes the necessity of using a mesh strainer. It is used in the mash tun to separate the wort from the grain. It is also used in the batch sparging method. With this method, the weaker wort is usually run off from the tun and each is made into different beers.

This particular bazooka screen is made from 304 stainless steel. It has a dimension of 12-inches in length and 1-inch in diameter. The wire mesh is also made from 304 stainless steel with 16 wires per inch and it features 1/2" NPT male fitting threads so that it can be coupled easily to the brew kettle. Further, there's a kettle screen to prevent hops from escaping out of the bazooka screen.

The bazooka screen has some filtration issues. Use whole hops with the wort because pellet hops will often clog the screen. If the bazooka screen gets clogged up, run it through cold water to remove the pellets that have been stuck inside the screen.
