Most commercial breweries boil their wort using electricity. Using an electric stovetop allows brewers to control the amount of heat that they are going to use to boil the wort. Brewing beer using electricity is a great way for home brewers to control the boiling process. Achieving a correct boil prevents the caramelization of the wort which can eventually lead to scorching at the bottom of the pan.

While using an electric stovetop is a conventional way for home brewers to heat their wort, others prefer to use heating elements. The Camco model 2965 screw-in heating element is an ultra-low watt density heating element. This means that the heat it produces per square inch along the element is very low which promotes even boiling of the wort over a long period of time, minus burning of the natural sugar from the wort.

Please Note: The threading for Camco heating elements are Nominal Pipe Size (NPS) where as most hardware on our site use National Pipe Thread Taper (NPT) threading. Camco heating elements WILL fit NPT hardware, if you are having trouble threading them on completely please use Teflon Tape.

This heating element is made from a nickel-chromium stainless steel alloy sheath that is resistant to dry firing. This means that even if you forgot to put the liquid inside the kettle, the heating element does not easily burn up.

It is compatible with different kinds of water heaters and can easily be installed using a 1" lock nut. However, it can only fit inside a brew tank that has a minimum diameter of 15" or larger.

It can get 20G into an aggressive boil with no troubles. I run it at about 60%.

Extremely Powerful March 18, 2018
Reviewer: Marc-Andre from Saint-Eustache
5500W for a 5 gal batch is quite overkill! But considering the price difference between 5.5k and 4k, might as well get this one :) I usually power it at 50-60% of its capacity and get a powerful boil, evaporation rate of about 1gal/h. They're a bit hard to clean, so make sure you have some PBW and let it soak overnight after brewday

Damn powerful! February 27, 2018

I use this to boil my wort and heat my strike water, in 16Gal pots.
I brew 5.3 Gal batched and DAMN these are powerful! The boil is almost too much when kept at 100%. I recommend using a controller to get the perfect boil.
