Blichmann Engineering BoilerMaker HopBlocker
The Blichmann Hop Blocker is best choice for your BoilerMaker when keeping out hop pellets from entering your fermenter. Blichmann Engineering repeatedly tested this product to find that 90-95% of hop material is left behind after transferring! And that's without any clogging or getting stuck.

Blichmann BoilerMaker HopBlocker

The HopBlocker is a two stage filtration, the first is a coarse filter drawing liquid from above the level of the hop sediment. The second is a fine filter for the thick liquid near the bottom of the kettle. This works by simply whirlpooling your wort and drain until getting closer to the bottom. Pull up the screen using the hook to engage the fine filter. While pulling up on the hook, hold the HopBlocker down while doing so.

The HopBlocker measures 5.625" tall by 3.75" wide at the base.

5 of 5 Works very well when used as intended May 12, 2019

I've tried it all, pellets, whole cones, hop sacks, hop spiders, loose hops but the Hop Blocker has proven to be the best solution. I find it works very well but in order for it to function as designed you will need to make a few adjustments on brew day. My first brew day with it I did exactly what every other brewer would do, installed it and brewed away. This provided mixed results. Start be reading the instructions! My second brew day, after reading the instructions, provided much clearer wort and I used twice the hops albeit the process took a little longer.

Post boil, I whirlpool while chilling, then allow the hop cone to rest prior to very slowly moving my wort into fermenters. The key is to slowly drain your kettle, go too fast and the Hop Blocker won't work as intended. I use a pump and throttle the flow so I'm not disturbing the cone. I get clearer wort than with a hop spider but it takes about 40 mins longer to drain my kettle.....but it works very well!

2 of 5 Could be good but.... January 13, 2019
Reviewer: David McCann from Nanoose Bay, BC Canada
The thing is good quality and in theory should be super helpful to leave lots of the bottom trub behind but putting the thing in place is so impossible I just don't use it. By the time you try and move the tube and fit it inside the hop blocker next to the boil coils and rotate it into place the bottom of the pot is all scratched, I am cursing, and fingers hurting and still not in place. ARGHH
