Catalyst Fermentation System
Primary and secondary fermentation all in one vessel, just pour in your wort, wait for the kettle trub to settle then pitch your yeast. It should take approximately 15 - 30 minutes for your kettle trub to settle into the mason jar.
The tank is scratch resistant and can handle prolonged heat of up to 230°F without affecting the durability of the tank. The tank is rigid not flexible, and will not crack or shatter like acrylics.
We highly recommend that you always have a wide mouthed mason jar attached to the trub trap to avoid possible mishaps. You should always make sure that the butterfly valve is in the closed position when adding your liquid, however having your mason jar in place before transferring will make sure your brew day is not ruined if by chance the valve is not closed.
When closing the lid it is easier if you latch the opposing sides at the same time if possible. The latches have been tested for durability with no noticeable wear after 500 uses. The silicone seal on this lid makes the tank leak proof and the lid and seal have been pressure tested with no leakage (this means that fermenting even meads for long periods of time will be fine).
While there are no handles for moving your Catalyst from one area to another, the sturdy base allows for easy moving. A silicone seating ring ensures that the tank fits snugly into the base.
It is recommended that you have some sort of collection bowl or plate under your jar when removing it from the trub trap. There is a gap between the closed butterfly valve and jar where a couple of ounces of liquid will accumulate and overflow when the jar is removed. While this may create a small mess, for anyone wanting to make a yeast starter or store their yeast for future use, capping the jar upon removal from the trub tap means no oxygen will be in the jar since it is filled to overflowing. We also suggest that when you are exchanging the mason jars that you open the butterfly valve only a little, that way you will only get a small stream of bubbles rising through your liquid. The trub trap allows you to collect and discard the trub from your wort and harvest the yeast for starters or future use.
You may add your priming sugar directly to the tank and stir gently before transferring. To transfer your beer, wine or mead to bottles, ensure the butterfly clamp on the trub trap is closed and remove mason jar, attach the bottle attachment and tubing (remember to add the clamp) and let gravity take over. If you are transferring to a keg raise The Catalyst to a level higher than your keg and fill.
Do you want to add flavourings or hops to your brew without removing the lid or stopper? Once it is done fermenting put your additions in an appropriate sized mason jar and attach to your trub trap and open the butterfly valve. Your hops and/or flavouring will be moved up into the tank with the pressure of the liquid moving down into your jar. Any additions may also be added through the hole in the lid. The hops will eventually sink to the bottom through the trub trap and into your mason jar.
The Catalyst Fermentation System may be used for beer, wine or cider.
While the tank is dishwasher safe we recommend that you sanitize all of your brewing equipment before each use - this includes the trub trap, lid, stopper and mason jars too.
