Fining gelatin is a heat soluble powder. Clears beer or wine by causing the particles to coagulate and settle. Composed of high molecular weight mass proteins that carry a big positive charge. Can be prepared by mixing in warm water and adding during transfer or pump-over. Solutions must be maintained at a temperature of 95-104F (35-40C) when added. Can take up to 2 weeks to clear a beer or wine.

Fining Gelatin (2 oz)


Use 1/2 tsp for five gallons of beer. Dissolve the fining gelatin into 1/4-1/2 cup of hot water, then add to beer. Wait a few days and rack off. Gelatin can also reduce astringency by removing tannins.

No only does this work great for clarifying, try a little bit mixed with water for a nice & easy, water-soluble label paste for your homebrew bottles!

Clear you beer June 13, 2014

I add gelatin directly to the serving keg with great results. The first pint or two are cloudy, but still taste fine. After that the beer is crystal clear.

OBK's gelatin is high quality, easy to work with, and tasteless. Be aware, however, that gelatin is an animal by-product, which may make your beer unsuitable for vegetarians.
