Junk November 21, 2017

I bought this capper to upgrade form my 30-year old lever capper.  however, the 'bell' is not a bell, it is an odd shape.  On most caps, and on most bottles it simply will not crimp the sides in.  After fighting with it for a few hours, I have accepted it is a $50 paper weight.

Great construction, tight bell November 21, 2017
Reviewer: Mike Delacretaz from hillsdale, ON Canada
I've used this capper for a single batch and so far, not bad.  The construction is solid; built much better than the one with plastic parts.  The only problem I have with this capper is the bell.  The bell on this capper is not bell shaped.  Instead it's straight walled on the inside.  I do use caps that are slightly thicker than the everyday caps, however, to crimp the caps on my bottles, I have to put almost all my weight onto the lever, which is frightening when your gripping a glass bottle under that amount of pressure.  I haven't broken a bottle yet, but it feels like I could.  Previously, I used a colonna capper, which crimped better, but didn't have the ease of height adjustment this one does.  I'm hoping the bell gets worked in, but be aware if you use thicker crowns on your bottles.
