Hose Clamps

They provide moderate pressure, which is enough to allow the tubing to expand without breaking the clamps. Most commonly used to tighten hoses, they prevent fluids and gases from escaping the barb by providing even pressure on all sides without any gaps.

Stainless Steel hose clamps may be tiny accessories, but they are essential when creating a seal between the hoses and hardware used in lauter and mash tuns. The nipple, barb and tubing should all be smooth and free from scratches and nicks to ensure a good seal. Any irregularities on the surface of your fittings can cause a loss of balance in terms of the clamp's fitting. That is why if you have stuck hoses, never remove the clamps by slitting them, as this can leave scratches on your hardware that can cause leaks.

While it may seem easy to use these hose clamps, many brewers have been caught off guard by forgetting to place the hose clamp around the tubing before placing the hose on the barb. But, again, not a big deal; remove the hose from the barb, place the clamp on the tubing, then reattach the hose to the barb and tighten the clamp.
