OBK Toy Soldier Stout (5.25 US Gal) with Toasted Oak Chips & Vanilla Beans
OBK Toy Soldier Holiday Stout
Our family is happy to announce that once again we will be selling Toy Soldier recipe kits. All proceeds from these recipes (not just profit or a percent) will be used to help those we cherish the most. Children.

Our Toy Soldier campaign does run throughout the year starting on Dec. 1st of each year until Nov. 30th of the following year. So... all purchases of our Toy Soldier stout recipe kits bought during the year (not just during special promotions) is tallied up on Dec. 1st.

Toy Soldier Stout is a warm and satisfying hearty drink with just enough spice to know it is different. Although offered year round, this kit really shines at Christmas when the magic of it is shared with others.

For those of you that are not regular followers of our Facebook page and were wondering how our 2016 Toy Soldier campaign went, here is a little update.

Thanks to the generosity of our customers who bought these stout recipe kits and those who donated by purchasing gift certificates specifying Toy Soldier, we were able to raise and donate over $8000.00 to our community. While to some this might not seem like a large amount, the Salvation Army is still looking at some other ways to distribute these funds within our area.

With the help of my family we visited Walkom's Valuemart in Mitchell on Sat. Dec. 3/16 and loaded our carts. This food was distributed throughout our community to those in need. (prior year updates below)

For those who would like to participate (thank you) without buying the kit. Please consider purchasing a Gift Certificate at the link below. Simply put "Toy Soldier" in one of the fields.

For those of you who may have missed the Facebook post on Jan. 13, 2017, here is how the campaign finished off.

Toy Soldier Stout with Toasted Oak Chips & Vanilla Beans

Holiday Stout -- Aroma is coffee-like roast and hints of chocolate and floral/citrus hops. Flavour is roasted grain, vanilla coffee, chocolate, caramel, and a mild bitterness. Overall a very dark, roasty, creamy ale.
Toasted Oak Chips and Vanilla Beans give this Holiday Stout added complexity. Add both after fermentation is completed, age to taste (typically 1-2 weeks).

Fantastic January 31, 2018

I'm not a stout lover, I'm more of a two stouts a year kind of stout drinker. Made a 10 gal. batch during OBK's annual drive figuring that if I didn't like it, I had friends who would appear out of nowhere and the proceeds are going to a good cause anyway. After fermentation took place, and allowing it to sit in a keg for three weeks, it is smooth, creamy, not too heavy. Well worth it, glad I took a chance. I will be purchasing another batch next year (2018).

Amazing Stout February 22, 2017

Soaked the oak and vanilla beans in some vodka for a little extra kick. One of the best stouts I've brewed to date. Did a 10 gal batch and the first corny was gone in a few weeks! Will definitely be doing this one again and again.

One of OBK's best September 10, 2015
Reviewer: Terry from Victoria
Took my time with this kit and the results have been spectacular.  Along with all the ingredients, I also added 2 Tblsp of Cocoa powder at the 40 minute mark of the boil.

Left it in the Primary fermenting for 2 weeks.

Soaked the Oak Chips in a cup of Crown Royal for 48 hours and similiarly soaked the Vanilla in Vodka for 48 hrs.  Added these to the primary after the 2 week mark, and let it sit for another 4 weeks.  Bottled and let sit and mellow for another 2 weeks.

First taste won't be my last!!!  Bold coffee and unsweetened chocolate notes.  The oak is present but not over powering.  This is a heavy beer with a high alcohol volume so one pint is good.
