4 of 5 preheat this beast! April 25, 2018

Solid strong construction.  A lot of thought was put into this beauty.  The false bottom and o-ring are top notch.  The 'feet' can come off easily, but also go back on easily so no big deal.  The thermometer's wire probe is not quite long enough for the mash tun's probe so I use a different thermometer for more accurate readings.  Be sure to preheat with 75-80 degree C strike water for 10+ minutes before mashing in.  I find that temperature works well and then you can drain off what you don't need for your mash and you should be good to go.

3 of 5 Looks sexy, but hardly holds the temp March 18, 2018

Even when pre-heating the tun like suggested by SS Brewtech I lose more heat than I should, and it seems like a common issue. This is usually due to the cover letting steam out, some say you should put weight on it, others recommend putting a thin aluminium foil on top of the grain bed to make sure head space is not a factor. I personnally use the MTSs with it and it solved my issues. still a bit disappointing for the price IMO.

2 of 5 No recirculation port like SS brewtech site says February 27, 2018
Reviewer: Ryan from NB
Unit came not equipped with top recirculation port as it says on the ss brew tech website. Although OBK website not saying it had this feature it also didn't say it didn't have it. Great product minus missing feature. OBK ignored my request for compromise to this issue such as splitting cost of retrofit kit but rather just saying i can return this very heavy vessel on my own dime which i had already paid to get it shipped to my house. Poor customer service in my opinion.

4 of 5 Great product except for one thing... March 21, 2017
Reviewer: Christopher Watt from Victoria, BC Canada
Have had this mash tun for almost a year now and I have to say I love it.  My efficiency has been holding between 75-85% and I am certainly happy with that.  The only problem is the thermometer that comes with this mash tun.  The first thermometer that came with it was broken, OBK gladly sent me a new one at no charge.  Now the second one has called it quits.  Also, I never found the reading quite accurate when I took secondary temperatures directly into the mash.  Can't say I'll miss the thermometer but I'd expect SS Brewtech to use a higher quality thermometer.

5 of 5 Fantastic Mash tun January 19, 2017
Reviewer: Eric Jourdan from Calgary, AB Canada
I received this as a Christmas gift from my wife (meaning I found it on sale and she told me to order it).  It's a really fantastic mash tun.  I lost about 1/2 a degree C during a 60 min mash outside at -5°C.  When I started to run off, I found the flow to be much faster than necessary, no chance of a stuck sparge.  Vorlauf was quick and easy!

I brewed a 10 gallon batch with about 23 pounds of grain for my first batch with the mash tun.  This was about it's max, I think it would probably fit about 25 pounds of grain,  if you mash very dry.  But thanks to great efficiency (91%), this yielded 10 gallons of wort in the mid 1.070's.

Overall I am extremely happy with my purchase.  I wish the sparge arm (not included) could be used with the lid on, but I just sparged with a silicon tube and a piece of foil to protect the grain bed.  I'm considering cutting a hole in the lid for sparging.

5 of 5 Fantastic March 25, 2016
Reviewer: Eric from Ottawa, ON Canada
SS Brewtech has fast become my favourite brew gear company. This is another excellent product. The insulated mash tun keeps the mash grist at a stable temperature, and I lose only about 1-2 degrees fahrenheit using the mash tun outside at 0 degrees celsius. Additionally, my brewhouse efficiency really improved: I was at about 65% using a non-insulated mash tun, and I hit 85-90% using the SS Brewtech mash tun. Many are wondering if this can be used for 10G batches. To this I would say yes, depending on the gravity of the beer you're making. If you do a good job of mashing and sparging, you can do 10G of 8% beer, but it will be difficult to do 10G of 10% beer. It should be noted that the tun is actually 11G and drains below the false bottom. Also, the tun is quite heavy at about 35 pounds.
