A mother of vinegar is used to ferment an already alcoholic beverage into vinegar. Alcohol is fermented by bacteria known as 'Acetobacter' into acetic acid, the tangy, acidic flavour found in vinegar.

This mother is for brewing apple cider vinegar, and as such is a 'mother' suspended in a solution of raw apple cider vinegar with a 5% concentration of acetic acid.

Apple cider vinegar is milder and more flavourful than wine vinegar, with a slight taste of apples or apple cider.
