Toy Soldier Stout (5.25 US Gal) Extract Kit w/ Specialty Grains, Oak Chips & Vanilla Beans

Aroma is coffee-like roast and hints of chocolate and floral/citrus hops. Flavour is roasted grain, vanilla, coffee, chocolate, caramel, and a mild bitterness. Overall a very dark, roasty, creamy ale.
Toasted Oak Chips and Vanilla Beans give this Holiday Stout added complexity. Add both after fermentation is completed, age to taste (typically 1-2 weeks).

5 of 5 Christmas stout December 31, 2016

really good stout used only half the oak chips and the full 2 vanilla beans cut and soaked in bourbon for 2 weeks before adding to secondary for a week. First sip only 1 week after in the keg and was already amazing  not sure how old it will get before its all gone!

5 of 5 Smooth and Delicious December 16, 2015

Really like this beer. It turned out fantastic. I left it in the primary for 3 weeks, than racked to a secondary with the vanilla beans for 2 weeks, and a couple days later added the oak, leaving it in for only day days. The oak still came through really nice and strong. I probably would only do 7 days next time to make it a bit more subtle.

For the vanilla beans, I just cut them in half, scraped out the insides and put it all into a little container (White Labs yeast containers work perfectly) and then filled it with Spiced Rum. Then I poured the beans and rum into the beer. Was damn good.

Will definitely be doing this one again

Soaked the vanilla beans in Sailor Jerry Rum.
Added to secondary with the oak.
Aged this in the keg for nearly two months.
Great winter brew. Next time I will cut the oak back a little.  Thanks OBK

5 of 5 Unbelievable Stout December 13, 2013

Best Stout I brewed to date, the vanilla and oak flavors come through well but are not over bearing.  Silky smooth with just the right amount of head retention.  Serving it through the OBK stout faucet which gives a perfect pour.
