Trub is defined as the sediment formed at the base of the fermenting kettle. It is comprised of heavy fats, yeast, and proteins. They appear as little bits of beige sediments suspended in the wort. There are two types of trub, hot breaks and cold breaks. Hot breaks is trub that precipitates above the boiling point while cold trub forms at around 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Thus, home brewers need to remove most of the trub between the boil and fermentation stages.

Although this mixture is nutrient rich, it is no longer needed when creating beer. Many home brewers prefer to leave most of the trub in the kettle to avoid mixing them with the wort while some use devices such as a trub filter.

As the name implies, the trub filter helps filter the wort from finer sediments called trub. The problem with most conventional filters is that they are prone to holes and frayed ends. The Trub Buster is especially designed to filter the trub from the wort.

Made from 304 stainless steel construction, the Trub Buster features a rigid design that will not easily get damaged through time. The mesh comes with 300-micron holes which is very effective in removing the trub from the wort.

It has a diameter of 12 1/2" thus it can fit larger sized brew kettles. It comes with a pickup tube opening which allows a 1/2" dip tube to be attached to it.

I look into this for a long time. And I remember reading how people have had success with this trub buster, or hop stopper. I've done over 16oz of hop pellets in a 10 gallon boil and have used this product dozens of times. It's always worked great. I start by opening the babe a quarter way, priming my pump by opening the outlet to bleed the air out, and it takes me 25min to chill through my boil king chiller down to 68*-72* farenheit. I wish I had a quick discount system to easily remove and clean the trub buster, but I generally tip pot to the sink and rinse out, or you can back wash it through your valve a bit. Never had issues and absolutely love this product.

I have about 20 batches brewed with the trub buster and it works great for me!  I've read other reviews, and I serioulsy don't know how others are using it but it never clogged even once, even with a big nasty hoppy NEIPA. A little soaking in PBW and rincing with STRONG water pressure and it's back brand new. So, works great to keep the trub out of a plate chiller! Would buy again.

Used this for the first time on my new system and I was having a great brew day until it was time to transfer to the fermenter. Took over an hour to get 15 gallons out of the pot, and I had to use the mash paddle the whole time to keep the filter clear of build-up. I'm buying a spider, save your money and do the same.

12 batch Done  With the trub buster  and no problm yet. Only thing, not easy to clean. Had tout use  a compressor to  remove the accumulated hop over use. Was impress when i  made  a  neipa  and  put 8 Oz  in the kettle, done the Job!

Like the others, I find this cloggs way too easily. Did a 10 gal. batch today, moderately hopped, all hopps in a hop sock /spyder and it still clogged in minutes trying to put the wort through a plate chiller. Loved the idea. Perhaps a coarser mesh or under a false bottom?? No good as is.
