White Labs WLP530 Abbey Ale Yeast
White Labs WLP530 Abbey Ale Yeast

White Labs WLP530 Abbey Ale Yeast -- Excellent yeast choice for high gravity beers, typically of the Belgian style; Belgian Strong ales, Dubbels and Tripels. This strain is similar to WLP500, but more alcohol tolerant (up to 15% abv) and slightly less fruity.

We highly recommend adding a Metallic Insulated Yeast Mailer when buying liquid yeast. The mailer keeps your yeast cold for an additional 24 hours. It can safely hold up to 4 yeast and ice packs. We only guarantee yeast that is shipped using these mailers.

Explosive fermentation June 18, 2014
Reviewer: Brew Darrymore from Toronto, ON Canada
I brewed a Leffe Blonde clone using WLP530 yeast. I prepared a starter 24 hours before brewing day. The fermentation was explosive! I lost some wort due to blow off. There was strong sulfuric smell coming out of the airlock during the first week. The smell disappeared giving way to a much nicer pear-like flavour after the first week of fermentation. Don't fear the sulfur - it will go away!

WLP-530 Abbey Ale Yeast August 2, 2013

Alcohol tolerant. Produced a fine Belgian quad @ 10.5%. Works better at warmer temps, and bottle conditioning takes forever. Keeping bottles at 75F or higher for the conditioning period will speed it up.
