Installing a thermometer on the brew kettle allows home brewers to accurately monitor the temperature of the wort. Boiling away too much water can have a lot of effects on the wort. For instance, if it boils off more wort than expected, the gravity of the beer is affected. It can also lead to more bitterness and aroma on the wort than as intended.

Having a thermometer is very helpful in achieving the right temperature to avoid boiling off too much wort. This Blichmann BrewMometer Bi-Metal Thermometer comes with a three-inch dial face that is hermetically sealed for accurate temperature reading.

This thermometer also features large letterings and a fine pointer for precise and accurate reading. Home brewers no longer need to guess or approximate the reading indicated by the thermometer. Moreover, it also includes suggested mash temperature printed on the thermometer. The temperature reading is in Celsius (6 to 104 Celsius).

Since this particular thermometer is an NPT version, it comes with a 1/2" NPT male pipe thread that can easily be installed on the brew kettle using the right female coupler. It also comes with an O-ring seal to make the installation of the thermometer leak-free.

When installing the thermometer, make sure that it is placed high enough away from the heat but also low enough to measure the average temperature of the wort. Since it is a metal thermometer, avoid installing it in an area where it can be subjected to high heat otherwise it will affect the reading of the wort.
