The Blichmann false bottom is created from industry-grade stainless steel. It is designed for use with the Blichmann Engineering BoilerMaker 10 Gallon Brew Pot so instead of buying a separate mash tun, you can turn this particular brew pot into a multifunctional mash tun.

Also an excellent option to use for the boil if your brewing with whole hops (for pellet hops, we recommend using the Blichmann HopBlocker). The patent-pending louver button design is a hybrid of the perforated false bottom and a slotted manifold, give the best of both designs. The hole is designed for the BoilerMaker dip tube to pass through and pick up wort from below the false bottom.

When brewing beer, hops are added to the liquid to give the wort its distinct flavour. After the boiling process, home brewers often end up with a liquid mixed with a pile of gunk on the top. It is important to remove the gunk and the sediments as this will affect the fermentation of the beer. The step of removing the gunk from the liquid wort is often done in a mash tun and is called lautering. Aside from separating the liquid from the gunk, the sugar that adhered on the gunk and sediments should be collected.

To effectively separate the wort from the gunk, a device called a false bottom is used. The false bottom acts as a sieve so that the wort can go directly to the bottom of the brew pot and can be collected through a spigot.
