A nipple is a type of fitting installed on many brew kettles. It is made up of a short pipe and a male pipe thread at each end. It is made from threaded steel, brass or copper. It also comes with external male pipe threads at both ends to connect other fittings. They are used in connecting hoses and they also serve as secondary valves for brew kettles.

This close nipple is made from 304 stainless steel. Since it is a close nipple, it features all threads on both sides unlike the other types of nipples, thus there is no space in between the threads. Homebrewers can use it to connect a 1/2" ball valve to a coupler that can also be attached to the brew kettle via the nipple.

Installing this Stainless Steel nipple requires a 7/8" hole. When drilling a hole for the nipple, pour cold water on the surface of the pot and bit to prevent the surface of the pot from getting too hot. Otherwise, it will ruin the bit and also the pot as well.

For easier connection, this nipple comes with a male pipe thread. Installing the ball valves and other couplers, using PTFE tape can provide a tight and leak-free seal. Washers and O-rings may also be used to seal everything up. However, the latter two are not included in the package; thus home brewers can opt for a PTFE tape instead, but regularly replacing the tape should be done every few months to maintain the seal of the nipples.

Thread Type*: National Pipe Thread (NPT)

*BSP and NPT/NPS threads are NOT compatible with each other. When purchasing threaded hardware, it's crucial to verify that you are selecting the appropriate threaded fittings to meet your requirements. Unsure about thread type? Please consult the NPT thread chart HERE.
