Mash Caddy Senior Basket

Mine broke on the first use. While removing the basket from the kettle to dispose of the grain, the handle came off. The basket hit the ground and popped some of the tack welds on the bottom screen. Until now I've been happy with pretty much everything from OBK. While this item worked, it hasn't impressed.

I'm not sure why everyone seems to rate this so low, it's really good.1 - Buy it. 2- Use pliers, bend the handle ends a little more. Do you own pliers? if yes, you can do this. Vise grips are even easier.3 - Have an epic grain basket that works perfectly.

The basket worked beautifully as a replacement for my brew bag. I also used it during the boil for my hops. The mesh is fine enough to keep all but the tiniest solids in check. The only minor problem I had was that the handle flexed when lifting and pulled out of the holes dropping the basket back into the kettle. I simply bent the handle straighter and didn't have any problemsuggestions after.

I hade to mode the handle to install it to my pulley system. Your not lifting this with 20 lbs of grain in it with a handle. I’ve used it for around a year and love it.

(updated) the handle is crap (as others stated as well). mine fell off when I tried to lift it out of the box... and whenever it is full until I held on directly to the basket (i.e. handle is seriously dangerous, useless at best)the mesh is only spot welded - and many spots were loose when it arrived. I cut myself on the edge of the mesh many times!!the basket list for $170 (on sale for 140), but you have to add the cost of a welder (or materials & time if you can do it yourself) to weld (at least!!!) a hoop around the top inside, stops on the handle (or a brace instead of a handle) and whatever it takes to reattach the mesh

Same problem with handle. Recommend altering this before you brew. Also false bottom came apart very first brew during mash causing grain to come out into wort. Very disappointed. Do not recommend

First off, the handle is useless. The overall build quality is also mediocre. I've only used the brew caddy for 3 brews and the bottoms seam is already separating from the frame. I cannot recommend this product until the issue with the mesh separating at the seams has been fixed. I might try to weld it up myself and see if that fixes it.

Dropped it into my boil with 2lbs of fresh hops in it and lifted it out to have the handle come free. Lucky for me the boiling wort seemed to miss me. When cleaning I noticed the mesh coming away on the bottom. So I need to build a proper handle and will have to use a BIAB mesh bag in it to avoid anything escaping out the bottom.

Just used this today and it worked great, as noted by Ron I had the same issue with the handle, as soon as you have a ton of wet grain in it the basket flexes when lifted and the handle comes out but is easily fixed. Otherwise the basket was great for both grains and hop additions.

Very poorly constructed, I had a stainless bottom mfg'd as the mesh pulled out of its welds, then the feet fell off! Handle is dangerous and bending stainless with a pair of pliers isn't as easy as it sounds. Do not use this for holding grain! Hops maybe but even then they get heavy and the handle will slip and the whole thing will drop. A dangerous POS!

It came with some failed spot welds already and eventually they all gave out. I had to take it to a welder to make some reinforcements for the bottom mesh just to hold the grain in. now with the bottom screen completely disconnected I have find some other way to have a screen on the bottom as it is too late to spot weld the screen back on. all in all though is that you are not gonna find someone to make this for the price that it is, unfortunately ill just have to make it work.

The whole thing is badly done. The handle won't ever stay attached, unless you bend the handle sides, which is not an easy thing to do.The mesh is spot welded to the frame, and those spot welds don't hold for long. Both the bottom and the sides on mine have lost about about half of their contact points.I haven't yet found a welder willing to fix it, as they all say it is too fragile to hold. And the bottom side frame is too thin to hold rivets (I've tried). It's hopeless.

Worked great for about 5 brews, then the Mesh separated from the frame on the bottom. It would work great if it was redesigned or if there was a false bottom or filter plate on bottom to support it.

Bought this for my kettle. Was exactly as described. The handle does indeed need adjusting to ensure you can safely lift the heavy basket of grain. Did a partial manual recirculation on first Brew and blew away my usual mediocre efficiency of 68%- and I got 79% on 45min Mash! Nice product overall. I can see the bottom screen welds not lasting forever if the Mash paddle is pushed into it. I plan to drop a 12 false bottom in to protect the bottom. Great product for the price
