The dip tube is a pipe installed on a brew kettle or keg to help draw out the liquid from the brewing container. It is designed to direct the wort to another container and prevent getting the hands burned due to accidental spillage. It is a great accessory for home brewers who want to create large batches of beer as it allows for draining of wort below the bottom of the valve.

This stainless dip tube is made from high-grade stainless steel. Also called a pickup tube, the stainless steel dip tube is resistant to rust and corrosion. It has a length of 6.25 inches. It can easily be used as a draw tube for all types of converted kegs and brewing kettles. This particular dip tube also comes with an optional compression fitting so that it can be connected to an inner female pipe thread port.

Adding this dip tube is a great way to improve the recovery of wort from the brew kettle. However, the dip tube will stop working once the level of the wort drops below the pipe's opening, thus it is more effective to place it at the bottom of the brew kettle.

Installing it on the brew kettle can be done by crimping the end of the pipe with pliers or by drilling a hole in the bottom half of the end cap before soldering it. This dip tube will get most of the wort from the brew kettle but it might also affect the flow rate especially when it is used with a counterflow chiller.

When installing the dip tube, there is a risk of the hop particles coagulating and clogging it. It is best to use it in conjunction with the whirlpool technique to pull the particles at the center and release a clearer wort.
