This will turn your wooden project into a tap handle for your home bar! Create your own tap handle/faucet know by inserting into your creation. Drill a 5/16" hole into a piece of wood and simply screw this 3/8" UNC threaded insert into the hole and you are finished!

Technique Important

I am making some tap handles out of apple wood. Apple is not as hard as some maple but can be very irregular. I used the technique that was in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9dN8-r-Z5Ow These were inserted into a 1/2 inch hole by threading the insert onto a bolt and putting the bolt into my chuck. The tailstock applied the pressure as I turned the chuck by hand. The insert cut the threads s it went inside. The blank can now be turned to its finished dimensions. Screwing these into hardwood with a screwdriver would be very difficult. If I had many of these to do I would see about getting a tap to cut threads on the inside of the blank corresponding to the outer threads of the insert.

Garbage

These threads are useful for soft wood maybe but for hardwood they are useless. I'm using maple and I'm tempted to throw these out and find something else. I need to make quite a few handles and these threads have made the job a nightmare. First off, 1/2in hole is too small. When you get a hole wide enough 9/16min, the threads aren't fine enough to screw in evenly so you end up having to just smash them in or screw a wide hole and glue them in so they are straight.I wouldn't recommend these at all.

Not Bad, Followed Description...But

these are good quality, however, I would not recommend a 1/2 hole for hardwood- 9/16 works better as I split my newly turned handle by going with the recommended 1/2 hole. Was disappointing, especially after the time it took to create on the lathe. That being said 1/2 works for softwood.

Incorrect description

Overview says drill 5/16 hole...more like 9/16. I have 6 handles to do and the first one didn't go great. I had a hard time getting it to thread in straight and eventually resulted to a hammer to seat it, and the result was about what you woul expect—less than ideal. The threads are very course, im sure there is a reason for this, but it seemed to keep the insert from screwing in straight. I hope the next five go in better.

These are great....As soon as I saw that these were available I carved a conventional tap handle from Cherry wood, and another from Soapstone...

Works Perfectly
