Works Well, But The Sg Scale Is Off

The Brix side of the scale is correct, but the SG side is off by about 2 points. As an example, where 13 Brix is on the scale, it lines up to 1.0505 SG. If you put 13 Brix into a calculator, it converts to 1.0526. I took hydrometer readings too and they all matched up to the Brix scale after conversion.If you ignore the SG side of the scale, the unit works great, but what's the point of buying a dual-scale unit if one of the scales is wrong? As of the time I'm writing, this dual-scale model is on sale for $1 cheaper than the Brix only model, so I can't exactly complain. But at full price, definitely save yourself a few dollars and just get the Brix only one.

Much Better That Hydrometer

This dual scale refractometer was on sale for less that the brix only unit. Much more accurate than hydrometer and requires only a few drops. Calibrating was easy once you get some distilled water from drug store. I found you have to kind of move the liquid around the surface with dropper before lowering the cover so you don't get any bubbles.

Pretty Good Little Unit.

My problem is that wort is too frothy to get an accurate reading. Hoping this fixes it.Downside is the directions are in Chinglish. Through to provide a direct reading of the scales,...After daying, it should be stored perfectlyWHAT?!Anyway, you can translate if you read it a few times.You'll need distilled water to calibrate the unit. Do it, mine was out a bit. The focusing eyepiece works great, once adjusted mine was really sharp and easy to read.The instructions claim that moistureproof sand is included with the kit. I assume they mean desiccant and no it isn't. But if you dry...or should I say day...it off really well you shouldn't need it. You can't rinse it underwater either. They warn water will get inside.Also, the case shown in the picture is not included. It comes in a pleather bag with a zipper. That was a bit of a disappointment.Overall though it was a great purchase.
